Strong Reaction from India’s Union Ministers to Bilawal Bhutto’s Statement Regarding the Indus River and India:
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, has drawn a strong reaction in India following statements he made concerning India and the Indus River.
While addressing a rally held in Sukkur, in the Sindh province, Bilawal Bhutto—specifically naming India—declared, “Either our water will flow in the Indus River, or their blood will.”
Several prominent leaders, including Union Minister Shri Hardeep Singh Puri and Union Minister for Jal Shakti Shri C.R. Patil, have expressed strong disapproval of this statement by Bilawal Bhutto.
Shri Hardeep Singh Puri stated, “Bilawal Bhutto’s statement is foolish; such remarks do not deserve any respect.” Similarly, Shri C.R. Patil remarked, “We are not intimidated by such threats.”
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri issued a strong rebuttal to the provocative statement made by Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto regarding India’s move to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
Speaking recently at a public rally in Sukkur, located in Pakistan’s Sindh province, Bilawal Bhutto asserted, “The Indus River is ours; it belongs to us. Either our water flows through it, or their (the Indians’) blood flows through it.” This remark was deemed provocative and was sharply criticized by Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday.
Hardeep Singh Puri remarked, “I have heard his (Bilawal’s) comments. Tell him that wherever he sees water, he should jump into it. But how can he jump in when there is no water to begin with? Such comments are not worthy of attention. He will eventually realize the consequences of his actions.”
The Union Minister further stated that the incident in Pahalgam was clearly a cross-border terrorist attack orchestrated by the neighboring country, and those responsible for it have already been held accountable. Hardeep Singh Puri stated in a stern tone, “Unlike in the past, there will be no back-and-forth deals anymore. As Prime Minister Modi has said, Pakistan will have to pay a heavy price. This is just the beginning. Terrorists are violating the fundamental right to life. The entire world is condemning this. Pakistan is not merely an irresponsible country; it is a decadent nation.”
The Minister also referred to a gesture allegedly made by Colonel Taimur Rahat—the Army and Air Force Advisor at the Pakistan High Commission in London—which signaled a throat-slitting motion. Puri remarked, “This is state-sponsored terrorism. The time has come for them to pay the price for it. If they (Pakistan) think that they…”
