Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Kanpur on May 30, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for 11 projects worth approximately ₹20,000 crore. This event was originally scheduled for April 24 but was cancelled due to a terrorist attack. Now, following reports of PM Modi’s potential arrival, the administrative machinery has swung into action to make preparations. The residents of Kanpur harbor high hopes for development stemming from PM Modi’s visit.

Preparations have once again commenced in anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s potential arrival in the city on May 30. Previously, the Prime Minister was scheduled to visit the city on April 24 to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for 11 major projects—including the Metro rail and the Ghatampur-Panki Power Plant—collectively valued at ₹20,656 crore; however, the event was cancelled following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22.

Ahead of PM Modi’s scheduled visit in April, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had even conducted on-site inspections of all the projects, including the Metro rail. Now, upon receiving fresh indications from the Prime Minister’s Office regarding the PM’s potential arrival in the city on May 30, the administrative apparatus has once again mobilized to undertake the necessary preparations.

**Preparations for the Foundation-Laying of 11 Projects**

A detailed roadmap is currently being drafted for the inauguration and foundation-laying ceremony of the 11 projects at the CSA grounds, to be performed by the Prime Minister. These specific projects had already been selected for inauguration and foundation-laying during the month of April. It is these very projects that PM Modi is expected to flag off. Consequently, this has rekindled hopes among the city’s residents that they may soon get the opportunity to travel on the Metro rail—specifically on the route connecting IIT to Ghantaghar—by the end of the month.

During the Prime Minister’s visit in May, the inauguration and foundation-laying of certain new projects may also be added to the itinerary. This includes the Mandhana-Anwarganj Elevated Railway Track. MP Ramesh Awasthi stated that he had written a letter to the PMO requesting the foundation-laying ceremony for the elevated track during the April visit. He added that district administration officials have also been instructed to remain prepared for this eventuality.
